You may want to update it whenever you purchase high value items. It is a good idea to update your Home Inventory List annually to include any new items that have been added to your household, and also to remove items that you no longer have. Remember to capture items you rarely use, such as holiday decorations, sports equipment and tools. Label and date when the photos or videos are taken. Take photos or video each room in your home, including inside closets, drawers, attic, garage and storage buildings.Scan and save copies of receipts for large items purchased in case proof of purchase price is required.

Keep appraisals up to date, at least every five years. Keep a detailed record of antiques, jewelry, electronics and collectible items.This will ensure that the item is valued correctly. Group your possessions into logical categories.Start with new purchases and add older items later.Be sure to include items that are not permanent fixtures of your home.
